Brandi Chavez, Jefferson Academy Secondary

Here is some special information about my experience in DI!

Information about how long I’ve been in DI, the roles I’ve had in DI, the regions I’ve been connected to, etc.:

My “Home Region” = North Metro

I have been a team member in DI since 3rd grade. I have participated at three different schools, making teams with friends from all three: Crowne Pointe Academy, STEM Academy, and Jefferson Academy, have all played a role in my Destination Imagination experience. For the last few years, I have been a member of the DI teen leadership committee and I assist in helping make DI magical and fun for everyone involved.

Special memories, experiences, etc. related to my time in DI:

I have too many memories to count, whether it was staying up all night to complete a challenge that was performed sleep-deprived by all teams in the morning, or waking up at the crack of dawn in Knoxville, Tennessee in order to make it to the Expo before the big rush. DI created a family for me, I bonded with fellow team members and even learned to embrace friendly competition. I created friendships and memories I will cherish for the rest of my life, and allowed myself to embrace my true self through DI spirit, where it was okay to be quiet because people still listened to what I had to say and allowed me to have no bounds in creativity. I specifically remember a quite messy endeavor of creating a paper mache blob in my basement, which we then decorated and used as a prop. Seeing ideas come to life was the most thrilling aspect of this club, nothing was impossible, including making functioning guitars out of cardboard. My most beloved memory is not running across the stage after a win during Global Finals (surprisingly), but instead, it is all the mistakes we made along the way: quarrels and mistakes that we all reminisce upon with lightheartedness and that can only be learned through failure and perseverance.

Here’s a photo I wanted to share with you about my experience in DI!
