Challenge

Your challenge is to design something as a gift for someone you care about and present a skit showing why you chose that person and what your gift is.

 

Time: 6 minutes total

4 minutes design your gift and plan your skit.

2 minutes to preform your skit

 

The Scene: You’ve got someone in your life who means a lot to you and you’d love to give them a special gift to show them just how much you care about them.

 

Materials:

  • 2 pieces of colored paper
  • 5 mailing labels
  • 4 craft sticks
  • 5 chenille stems (pipe cleaners)
  • 1 piece of fabric (size of your choice)
  • 2 paper tubes
  • 5 paperclips
  • Not included in your skit: colored markers, scissors and a pencil

 

Scoring: 100 possible

Up to 20 points for the creativity of your performance

Up to 20 points for the creativity of your gift

Up to 20 points for the creativity of why you chose this person and how the gift would be special to them

Up to 20 points for the creativity of how you used the materials for the gift

Up to 20 points for how creatively you solved the overall challenge

 

Do Ahead

 

Collect the following materials:

  • 2 pieces of colored paper
  • 5 mailing labels
  • 4 craft sticks
  • 5 chenille stems (pipe cleaners)
  • 1 piece of fabric (size of your choice)
  • 2 paper tubes
  • 5 paperclips
  • colored markers
  • scissors
  • 1 pencil

 

Debrief:

After the team has finished their challenge discuss the following:

  • What kind of problems did you encounter when you made your gift?
  • How could you have used your materials differently?
  • What kind of problems did you encounter when you made your skit?
  • Did you finish planning in time?
  • What could you have done differently?
  • All good stories have a beginning, middle and an end. Did your story have all three parts?

 

Follow Up:

  • Using the same materials, repeat the challenge after the debriefed. This gives them the opportunity to apply any corrections discussed during the debrief time.
  • Do the challenge again using different materials.
