CORE COMPONENT OF THE DI EXPERIENCE
An Instant Challenge in Destination Imagination is a fast-paced, 5- to 10-minute test where a team must work together to solve a surprise problem in front of a panel of Appraisers (DI's judges).
Designed to practice the same creative and collaborative skills as the larger Team Challenges, these short tasks evaluate a team's creativity, teamwork, and the overall effectiveness of their solution. Depending on the challenge, teams may need to build a physical structure (task-based), put on a spontaneous skit (performance-based), or do a combination of both.
TYPES OF INSTANT CHALLENGES
Instant Challenges come in three varieties: Performance-based (act out a skit or scenario), Task-based (build or create something), or a combination of both. Teams never know which type they will get.
HOW TO PREPARE
While you cannot prepare for a specific Instant Challenge, you can practice the skills needed. Have your team practice brainstorming quickly, building with random materials, and performing under time pressure. DI HQ provides practice Instant Challenges for teams.
SCORING
Instant Challenge is worth 25% of a team's overall score at a tournament.
