Shanti Flaherty, President
Shanti has a B.A. in Communications from Colorado University and a M.A. in Teaching from Colorado College. Upon completing her teaching degree, she taught 5th grade in Colorado Springs District 11, and then transitioned into working with students grades K-5 as a Gifted Resource Specialist for District 20. She and her family relocated to the Vail Valley in 2007, where she had the opportunity to develop Eagle County Schools’ first K-12 district-wide gifted education program. In 2010, Shanti became an educational consultant, offering professional development to Colorado’s rural Western Slope schools as well as becoming a school designer for a charter school in New Mexico. More recently, she completed a two-year-long project for the New York State Board of Regents, writing Common Core Language Arts Curriculum that is utilized not only throughout the state of New York but also in schools across the country. Currently, Shanti works for Edmentum, creating online language arts content. In the summer of 2014, Shanti and her family moved to the Denver area.
Shanti first became involved with Destination Imagination in 2005, when she served as both a team manager and site coordinator for the Da Vinci Academy. After moving to the Western Slope, and taking on the role of district coordinator she promoted Destination Imagination opportunities throughout Eagle County as well as other rural, nearby districts. She is very excited to be involved with Destination Imagination once again!
Jenny Ricklefs, Vice President
Jenny joined the Volunteer Services Department with the University of Colorado Health in March of 2015. Her prior employment opportunities include working with Wind Crest Senior living as the Assisted Living Manager, working with St. Andrew United Methodist church as the Director of Congregational Care and Outreach, and working with both Lutheran Family Services and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Her career has always involved working with amazing volunteer teams.
Jenny has been involved with Destination Imagination for 15 years as a Team Manager and now as Co-Chair of the Team Manager Retention Committee. Her love of DI and Team Managers shines through her efforts to help new Team Managers feel connected and successful during their 1st year of DI.
Dacia Donohue, Secretary
Dacia loves spending time with her kids, cooking, crafting and solving problems. She has been involved in DI as a team manager, appraiser and associate growth director for 5 years. She serves as the Director of Product Development for a mortgage services company where she can use her passion for creative problem solving to help automate software solutions. She wants to continue spreading a love of project management and teaching creative problem solving so that our youth learn that nothing is impossible.
Jim Vigland, Treasurer
Jim Vigland is a Financial Investigator for the State of Colorado. He uses a variety of financial data to identify risk and continuously improve organizations. Jim comes from a background in public accounting, where he worked with diverse teams to conduct audits and business valuations.
Jim is new to Destination Imagination (“DI”) Colorado, and is eager to help give kids the tools to build a foundation of innovation. He is passionate about improving critical thinking and problem solving skills, which is what drew him to DI Colorado.
Jim is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner, and holds a BS in Accounting from Missouri State University.
Maureen Dewar, Board Member, RD Representative
Maureen has worked in the banking industry for over 39 years, and currently works for Mutual of Omaha Bank as a Sr. Loan Assistant/Office Manager for the Denver Tech Center office. Maureen has worked in various Colorado based banks, and has a well-rounded wealth of knowledge in all areas of banking.
Maureen has been involved with Destination Imagination in the Cherry Creek region for over 18 years, with roles as a Team Manager for both her children, an Appraiser, co-Regional Director and now as a 2nd year Board Member.
Bob Tipton, Board Member
Bob is a high-energy, innovative, and insightful transformational change architect, leadership facilitator, keynote speaker, and author who is passionate about helping individuals, groups and entire organizations reach for and achieve exceptional results. In his career to this point, he has been Founder/CEO of R S Tipton, Inc., CEO of an IT-related professional services firm, CIO of a $1B+ distribution company, VP / managing director for the integrated marketing group for a major online agency, VP of corporate capabilities and communications for a significant professional services firm, SVP of a major technology, strategy and creative company, Global vice president of industry technology for a major technology consulting firm, and CTO of a significant IT consulting company.
He’s also a popular and entertaining speaker; speaking each year to several international business groups, seminars, conventions, and conferences around the world.
Bob has been a DI Team Manager, Building Coordinator, Appraiser and Regional Challenge Master for 25 years. “I am passionate about equipping our kids to succeed in a future we only have fuzzy glimpses of at this point. Teaching kids how to take tests is COMPLETELY backward — what we need to do is to help kids adapt, to innovate, and to be resilient in the face of challenges. As such, I am a huge advocate and supporters of Destination Imagination (DI).
Carrie Roethe, Board Member
Carrie is an innovative leader in communications with over twenty years of demonstrated strategic communication expertise in publicly traded companies. She has deep experience in creating collaborative and comprehensive communications strategies for her clients. She has been a teacher, an editor, a technical writer, a journalist, a multimedia consultant, a leader in corporate communications and currently serves as the Director of Enterprise Sales and Customer Communications for CenturyLink.
Areas of expertise for Carrie include in-depth M & A leadership, corporate culture, crisis communications, change management and executive communications. Carrie has a passion for leading high-performing teams and is a published author. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in English and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.
While she is new to the board of directors, Carrie has been involved with Destination Imagination for over eight years as a team manager and has witnessed dozens of children flourish with the skills they acquire through DI. She believes passionately in Destination Imagination’s critical role in proving the opportunity for kids to collaborate, problem-solve and think independently – learning the real-life skills they need to lead our world. The teams also laugh a lot together, and that’s a nice sound to hear.
